Clinical examination may suggest a fractured pelvis after trauma; there may be blood at the urethral meatus. On rectal examination in men, the prostate may be free floating.
Fracture of the pelvis may be confirmed with radiography.
Blood at the meatus is a contraindication to catheterisation.
