Co-trimoxazole

Co-trimoxazole is a mixture of trimethoprim and sulphamethoxazole in the ratio 1:5.

Routes of administration;

  • oral (tablets, suspension and syrup)
  • i.m. injection
  • i.v. infusion

In clinical practice, changes to the licence indications for the use of co-trimoxazole, apart from pneumocystis carinii, there are few situations in which co-trimoxazole should be prescribed in preference to a single antibiotic.
