Side effects
Side-effects include:
- glossitis
- rashes
- erythema multiforme - including Stevens-Johnson syndrome
- epidermal necrolysis
- nausea and vomiting
- haematological effects due to trimethoprim;
- eosinophilia
- agranulocytosis
- granulocytopenia
- megaloblastic anaemia
- purpura
- leucopenia
The risk of developing erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis was 1.7/100,000 users of co-trimoxazole (95% CI 0.7, 4.4) and 0.8/100,000 users of trimethoprim (95% CI 0.2,2.7).
