Diagnosis and treatment
Diagnosis is by specific inhibitor activity.
Treatment depends upon the inhibitor level.
Approaches include:
- immunosuppression to reduce antibody production
- plasmaphoresis to reduce inhibitor levels
- massive infusion of the appropriate factor
- infusion of Factor IX concentrates for Factor VIII inhibitor - may bypass the inhibited clotting factor
- Factor VIIa with Factor VIII bypassing activity
- cyclophosphamide, usually combined with prednisolone, or porcine Factor VIII, may be used in Factor VIII inhibition
