Cryoglobulinaemia
Cryoglobulins are circulating proteins which become insoluble at reduced temperatures - less than 4 degrees centigrade. The reaction is reversible; redissolution occurs at 37 degrees centigrade.
The proteins may be of any immunoglobulin class, be a mixture of different immunoglobulins, or may be a complex of immunoglobulin and serum protein.
They can deposit in small- to medium-sized blood vessels throughout the body, causing endothelial injury and end-organ damage known as cryoglobulinemia.
