The cervical cap is form of barrier contraceptive device used by women.
It is a plastic or metal cap that fits over the cervix and is left in place for several days. A spermicide must be used in combination with a cervical cap.
Note that a cervical cap may be appropriate in some situations where fitting a diaphragm is not possible e.g. if there is poor vaginal tone or mild prolapse, lack of post-pubic shelf, or recurrent cystitis (1)
