Haemostasis is achieved through a non-stick silicone diode through which a current is passed at the tip of an endoscope. Localised heating results. As with electrocoagulation techniques, irrigation is required but accuracy is high. The operator can control the probe temperature and the time of contact with tissue.
Preliminary reports suggest that heater probes may be as efficacious as lasers or electrocoagulation.
