Chronic hepatitis

Chronic hepatitis is inflammation of the liver which lasts longer than six months.

The clinical significance of chronic hepatitis is variable. Some patients are asymptomatic with elevated transaminases as the only sign of continuing liver inflammation. Other patients remain symptomatic and progress rapidly to cirrhosis, liver failure and death.
