Indications for a temporary pacemaker
Possible indications include:
- a symptomatic bradycardia that is not controllable by drugs
- in order to suppress drug-resistant ventricular tachycardia or supraventricular tachycardia
- the onset of acute conduction disturbances:
- after an anterior myocardial infarction (MI), a pacemaker may be given prophylactically to prevent bi- or tri-fascicular block or second or third degree AV block
- in the case of an inferior MI, a pacemaker is only indicated if these conduction disturbances are present
