Flavin mononucleotide is a coenzyme precursor of flavin adenine dinucleotide. It is derived from riboflavin within the diet.
FMN contains an isoalloxazone ring that readily accepts and donates electrons. This makes it ideally suited to act as an intermediate in redox reactions.
One example of FMN use is as the prosthetic group in the NADH dehydrogenase complex within the electron transport chain.
