Authoring team

  • systemic steroids have a limited role in hay fever management when complete control of symptoms is judged essential

  • previously depot triamcinolone was considered a treatment option in such cases

  • a review of the evidence of the effectiveness of depot triamcinolone has concluded that the "the use of depot injections of triamcinolone is no longer acceptable"

  • in cases where systemic steroids may be indicated then a course of low dose oral prednisolone, such as prednisolone up to 20 mg per day for up to 5 days, is a treatment option (1)
