Pathology
Histological examination reveals a tuberculosis granuloma with caseating (cheese-like) central necrosis. Epitheloid cells and giant cells of Langhan are present in the granuloma peripheral to the central caseation. There is lymphocyte infiltration of the outer layers and an outer layer of fibrous tissue.
There may be extensive fibrosis in healing lesions.
