Aetiology of hypercalciuria
- idiopathic:
- absorptive hypercalciuria - hyperabsorption of calcium from the intestine
- intrinsic impairment in renal tubular reabsorption of calcium
- inherited defect in calcium transport associated with increased calcium-magnesium ATP-ase
- renal tubular acidosis
- progressive osteoporosis
- acromegaly
- Cushing's syndrome
- excess of dietary calcium
- immobilisation +/- Paget's disease
