Discussing the assessment and management of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in primary care. Includes the interpretation of ankle brachial pressure index and a guide to clinically distinguishing PAD from other causes of leg pain. The session will also cover the importance of the aggressive management of risk factors and referral criteria.
Covering the management of venous eczema. Looking at grading severity and assessing for complications. Discussing treatment of the venous eczema, the underlying venous disease and any infective exacerbations.
A guide to the approach to a patient who presents with night sweats. Important aspects to cover in the history and examination and the use of focused investigations.
Exploring the considerations required with a raised ferritin. Discussing iron studies and the importance of transferrin saturation in the assessment of a raised ferritin. A discussion of iron overload and other important diagnoses that need to be considered and excluded.
In recent years, patient awareness and interest in neurodevelopmental disorders has meant that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been the topic of an increasing number of consultations and referrals. This presents challenges for clinicians in knowing how to effectively assess and refer patients but also how to guide and treat them while waiting for review. This session will review current approaches to ADHD management and referral, summarise the signs and symptoms of ADHD and how it manifests in adults and children, explore strategies for management and identify available resources.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can often coexist with ADHD and comes with a wide range of symptoms and patient needs. It is often challenging to make a diagnosis and to support patients. In this session, we will review the current guidance on diagnosing and managing patients with ASD, other services available to support patients, as well as ways that we can modify our practice and practices to be more inclusive and accessible for patients with neurodiversity and additional needs.
Hoarding disorder is a common but difficult-to-recognise issue in communities and is often missed by clinicians unless doing a house call (and, even then, it is difficult to know how to address it). This session will review what hoarding disorder is and when to suspect it. It will focus on fire risk as well as associated medical conditions. We will look at treatment approaches and a holistic patient-centred approach to management.
