The FBC can suggest thal carrier state. Microcytosis with or without mild anaemia can be present with thalassaemia carrier states. This blood profile can also indicate iron deficiency. When this blood profile detected , plasma or serum ferritin estimation, with High Performance Liquid Chromatography HPLC) or measurement of Hb A2 level should be performed, to make a definitive diagnosis.
