At 2 years - gross motor skills

The 2 year old is an independent child who gets about, often rapidly, and is able to walk and run and negotiate stairs. The child can go up and down stairs holding on in the upright position. This is done one step at a time. Running is now more skilled and he can change course to avoid obstacles.

  • can rise to his feet easily from the squatting position
  • can climb on and off furniture
  • can throw and kick a ball without falling over
  • failure to walk at this age needs further investigation
