Colonic polyps may be single or multiple. Familial polyposis coli is a condition that is inherited in autosomal dominant manner in which there is extensive polyposis of the large bowel (1).
Polyps are a common finding in the colon. All polyps have malignant potential although the majority are adenomas, i.e. benign neoplasms. A polyp may have undergone malignant change but still be at an early stage, and hence is potentially curable. All polyps should be assumed to be malignant until proved otherwise (2).
