Landau-Kleffner syndrome is a degenerative neurological disease of unknown aetiology seen in children between the ages of three and nine years.

The onset is rapid, with the development of:

  • aphasia, in the face of previously normal speech and language
  • seizures in 80% of patient, which can be focal or generalized

There is a typical EEG, with posterior temporal and parietal spike foci.
