Nimodipine is a calcium channel blocker which has a neuroprotective activity.
Large scale trials have shown that if nimodipine is administered soon after a subarachnoid haemorrhage - i.e. within 72 hours - and continued for two weeks, there is a reduction in ischaemic deficits by a third.
