High fibre foods examples

This is not an extensive list, but it gives an approximate guide to some foods high in unabsorbable fibre:

  • whole grain and bran-enriched breakfast cereals e.g. muesli, especially no added sugar type, all bran, shredded wheat
  • wholemeal bread
  • other wholewheat products e.g. pasta
  • other whole grains e.g. brown rice
  • pulses e.g. kidney beans, chick peas, 'baked beans'
  • potatoes ideally eaten with skins
  • fruit and vegetables - these are a relatively poor source of fibre compared to grains and pulses
