Bacillus cereus is one species of the genus Bacillus which are aerobic, spore-bearing, Gram-positive bacilli. Its natural habitat is soil and this results in its ready contamination of cereals.
One means of distinguishing it from other Bacillus species is that it is motile.
B. cereus is renowned for causing sporadic outbreaks of food poisoning.
