The prognosis of ITP is good.
A minor risk during the initial phase, especially in chronic ITP, is cerebral haemorrhage.
Most cases of ITP may be controlled with prednisolone or splenectomy. If neither therapy is effective, the condition tends to fluctuate over the years and requires continual management.
Cerebral haemorrhage occurs and accounts for most deaths in patients with ITP.
