this influences treatment with topical steroids because of the variability in skin thickness at different sites of the body
in areas where the skin is thin (e.g. face, genitalia, intertrigous areas) then only a weak (e.g. hydrocortisone 1%) or moderate (e.g. clobetasol butyrate) topical preparation should be used - note that, in general, only weak topical steroids, if topical steroid treatment is indicated, should be used to treat facial eczema in children
