Prone is the adjective describing the patient or cadaver in the anatomical position and lying with the face directed downwards. Alternatively, prone can refer to the placement of the forearm so that the palm is facing posteriorly when in the anatomical position.
Pronation is the act of assuming a prone position.
Prone should be contrasted with supine.
