Arrhythmias may occur in chronic heart failure, of which supraventricular arrhythmias are common, due to stretching and irritation of the left atrium.

In some instances the arrhythmia may be the cause of heart failure.

Ventricular arrhythmias in heart failure may present with sudden death. Ventricular tachycardia is common.
