As with any soft tissue tumour, the location and stage of a histiocytoma are the most significant prognostic factors.

Tumours near the surface are detected earlier and are more easily resected.

In malignant tumours, metastases are found at diagnosis in:

  • 50% of storiform-pleomorphic tumours
  • 25% of myxoid tumours

The overall 5 year survival of malignant tumours is approximately 50%.
