Most forms are treated surgically. The aim is to promote symmetry in all positions of gaze. Usually, the levator aponeurosis or superior tarsal muscle are resected. If there is no levator function, the lids may be suspended from the brow and are elevated by movement of the frontalis muscle. Spectacle devices - ptosis crutches - are also available.
