This multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo controlled trial enrolled 1749 patients with:

  • acute MI
  • wall motion index of 1.2 or below i.e. with significant left ventricular dysfunction and a high risk of death

Trandolapril therapy was commenced 3-7 days after MI and continued indefinitely.

Mortality was 22% lower in the Trandolapril arms when compared to the placebo arm.
