Urachal cyst

Authoring team

Cystic remnants of the urachus may persist between the umbilicus and bladder when urachal obliteration is incomplete. The cysts exist as immobile swellings in the hypogastrium deep to the abdominal muscles. At any time they may become symptomatic and present as lower abdominal masses or occasionally, abscesses.

Treatment is by excision.
