NUMBER EIGHT

The anterior basal bronchopulmonary segment of the left inferior lobe is supplied by the anterior basal segmental bronchus, a branch of the left inferior lobar bronchus.

This segment only presents diaphragmatic and lateral surfaces which are not enclosed by other segments of the lung.

Anteriorly is the lower end of the oblique fissure; anterior to the fissure is the inferior lingular segment of the left superior lobe. Posteriorly is the lateral basal segment of the left inferior lobe. Medially is the medial basal segment. Superiorly may be either an extension of the lateral basal segment or a separate subapical bronchopulmonary segment. Inferiorly, the anterior basal segment rests upon the surface of the diaphragm.
