Causes include:

  • congenital:
    • tuberous sclerosis
    • partial albinism
    • Waardenburg's syndrome

  • post-inflammatory:
    • as in burns
    • discoid lupus erythematosus
    • eczema

  • infection:
    • piyriasis versicolor
    • leprosy

  • immunological:
    • vitiligo
    • halo naevus
