Fluid thrill in ascites

A fluid thrill may be demonstrable in massive ascites.

Ask an assistant to place a hand firmly on the centre of the abdomen, with the edge of the palm in contact with the skin and fingers pointing towards the groin.

Flick one side of the abdominal wall. Feel for transmitted pulsation with the other hand which is placed on the opposite side of the abdomen.
