The history wherever congenital cardiac disease is suspected should include:

  • family history - known congenital problems, affected sibs
  • perinatal history - infections, cyanosis
  • feeding - shortness of breath during feeds
  • sweating - especially where cold and clammy
  • breathing difficulties
  • cyanosis
  • unusual behaviour - funny spells or turns, specifically ask about hypercyanotic - blue - spells
  • exercise - difficulties, squatting afterwards
