The hip abductors are weaker than the adductors, causing dislocation. This is usually the result of childhood paralysis. The greater trochanter fails to develop properly causing valgus deformity and subluxation.
Treatment is similar to that for developmental hip dysplasia. Additionally, a muscle rebalancing operation may be required.
