Isocitrate dehydrogenase

Isocitrate dehydrogenase is actually 2 slightly different mitochondrial enzymes which convert 6 carbon isocitrate into 5 carbon 2-oxoglutarate during the tricarboxylic acid cycle. One enzyme reduces NAD during the reaction, the other reduces NADPH.

Also, 1 molecule of carbon dioxide is produced during the reaction.

The molecule of NAD(P)H can produce 3 molecules of ATP via the electron transport chain.

Isocitrate dehydrogenase is one target for TCA cycle modulation.
