If a young woman presents acutely with dysuria the cause is likely to be one of three types of infection: acute cystitis; acute urethritis (eg due to C.trachomatis, N. gonorrhoeae, herpes simplex virus); or vaginitis due to candida or Trichonomonas vaginalis.
