Clinical features
Acute pyelonephritis is characterised by an acute onset of pain in the loin which radiates to the iliac fossa and suprapubic area.
Other features are:
- general systemic disturbance - sudden onset of fever, rigors, vomiting
- urinary frequency
- painful micturation
- cloudy, offensive urine
- tenderness and guarding over the kidney
In children the systemic features are predominant.
