Function
The rhomboid muscles act together as a functional unit to:
- retract the scapula, in conjunction with trapezius contraction
- elevate the medial border of the scapula superiorly and medially; trapezius is the antagonist for this movement
- stabilise the scapula when other muscle groups are active
