Pastia's sign

Authoring team

This sign may occasionally be seen in scarlet fever. If the scarlet fever rash is profuse then petichiae may be found in the antecubital fossa. After the erythema fades the pigmentation persists - this is Pastia's sign.

This sign is now mainly of historical interest.
