Relations
The middle constrictor of the pharynx has the following relations:
- superiorly: superior constrictor; the space between the superior and middle constrictor is traversed by the:
- stylopharyngeus muscle
- glossopharyngeal nerve (IX)
- styloglossus muscle
- lingual nerve
- lingual artery
- hypoglossal nerve (XII)
- inferiorly and anteriorly:
- hyoid bone
- thyrohyoid membrane
- inferiorly and posteriorly: inferior constrictor; the space between the middle and inferior constrictor is traversed by the:
- internal laryngeal nerve
- superior laryngeal artery
- superior laryngeal vein
- posteriorly: fascia overlying vertebral bodies
- laterally: hyoglossus
