Histrionic personality disorder
An individual with a histrionic personality disorder seems to be playing a part and cannot be themselves.
They are unaware that others can see through their pretences and will maintain elaborate untruths long after they have been exposed.
They search for new experiences but rapidly become restless, discontented and bored. They lack consideration for others and seem selfish.
The following characteristics are typical of a histrionic personality disorder:
- egoism, vanity, egocentricity, self-indulgence
- exhibitionism, dramatisation, lying
- unbridled display of affect, excitability, inconsistency
- emotional shallowness
- lascivious sexualisation of non-sexual function
- sexual frigidity and sexual immaturity
