Educational responsibilities

Authoring team

  • Attend induction sessions with all types of staff
  • Keep a training diary for all subjects discussed, ideas for future tutorials and for items to be researched
  • Learn the theory of the consultation and doctor-patient communication - a good relationship with patients is the best way to avoid a visit to the GMC
  • Work out methods for keeping up to date and use adequate reference material during and after surgery
  • Arrange and attend visits to other practices, in agreement with the training practice
  • Understand the requirements for summative assessment including video and for the RCGP exams and make early arrangements to attend appropriate courses for these
  • Pick an appealing project, start early and keep it simple
  • Treat all staff properly and remember that registrars are also learning how to be an employer
  • Learn how to delegate. Delegation is a circular process which requires built-in checks to ensure success.
