Ear canal tumours

Benign:

  • from the ceruminous glands
  • osteoma - often in swimmers and needing treatment only if they occlude the ear canal

Malignant:

  • squamous cell carcinoma
  • invasion from tumours in adjacent structures, usually, the parotid

Malignancy is suggested by deep pain, often with accompanying bloody discharge and facial nerve paralysis. Treatment is usually by resection with or without, local radiotherapy.
