This is characterised by red cell dysplasia with erythroid infiltration of the heart, liver and spleen.
Laboratory investigations reveal a anaemia, leucopaenia, thrombocytopaenia; LDH and B12 levels are raised. Antihaemoglobin antibody may be shown by immunoperoxidase stains.
Transfusions are required.
