Darwin's tubercle

Authoring team

This is a congenital ear condition which often presents as a thickening on the helix at the junction of the upper and middle thirds. This acuminate nodule represents the point of the mammalian ear. The atavastic feature is called Darwin's tubercle, even though it was first described by Woolner, a sculptor.

The differential diagnoses include BCC, SCC and gouty tophus.
