This is a broad based, diffuse area of hyperkeratosis. It is of approximately even thickness. Commonly it is found under the metatarsal heads. A callus does not have a central core (1). A callus may or may not be painful.
Treatment is via regular trimming.
If the callus is localised then shoes should have extra depth, be wide and low healed. A metatarsal pad may be of benefit.
A diffuse plantar callus requires shoes with cushioning +/- a cushioning insole.
