Bulbospongiosus muscle (female, anatomy)
The bulbospongiosus muscle in the female arises from the:
- perineal body posteriorly
- inferior fascia of the urogenital diaphragm laterally
It passes around the outside of the vagina to insert into the dorsum of the clitoris.
Bulbospongiosus in the female acts to:
- close the vaginal introitus
- facilitate clitoral erection
