Breast reduction remains a popular surgical procedure. In the annual survey of The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), breast reduction was the third most popular procedure undertaken by its members with 5,291 procedures in 2011-2012, up 6.7% on the previous year (1). Female breast reductions outnumber male breast reductions by approximately 6:1. The continued popularity of private breast reduction and a trend to obtaining the procedure outside of the UK (2) have been suggested as indicators of limited access to the procedure within the NHS in the United Kingdom (3).
