A lesion of the total brachial plexus produces flaccid paralysis and anaesthesia of the entire arm. Involvement of the proximal T1 nerve root may be indicated by the presence of a Horner's syndrome due to interruption of sympathetic innervation at that level.
Cases should be referred to specialist surgical units if the paralysis is the result of trauma.
