Aminoglutethimide
This is a hormone antagonist.
It inhibits the conversion of androgens to oestrogens in the peripheral tissues.
Indications:
- breast cancer and prostatic cancer; given with a glucocorticoid (and sometimes a mineralocorticoid as well); has largely replaced adrenalectomy in postmenopausal women with breast cancer
- Cushing's syndrome due to ectopic ACTH production (glucorticoid is only given if necessary)
